Doesn't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got til it's gone?
I've spent too much time trading away my todays in hopes of something else tomorrow, but that never comes. We look back at yesterday like it was a simpler time, but that would mean today will be the same a few years from now. We get stuck in our heads, regretting what ALREADY happened and worrying about what MIGHT happen, we have no time left for what IS happening; then we wonder why we don't smile as often. I'm not advocating we choose a life of short term gratification and irresponsible decisions, but I am reminding you that if you're not happy with what you have, don't expect yourself to be much happier with the things you'll get. The good times last about 6 hours, and then we're off focusing on the next fix, and that's okay; everlasting happiness is a corny idea we can leave in the fairy tales.
Look around at your life, and decide to express more gratitude for the things you have NOW. We'll always be able to list off things we want, let's shift the focus on appreciating we already have. It's a simple, yet challenging shift to make, and completely worth it.
