You don't have to take sides to acknowledge the history that was made today.
You don't have to have a specific political leaning or agenda to realize the importance of having a bi-racial daughter of immigrants now serve as one of the most visible powers in the world.
It doesn't take a degree in political science to see that young girls are going to grow up seeing powerful women of colour as a norm, and that now there's one less layer of insecurity that needs to be shed when pursuing their own big dreams.
You don't have to be on a specific team to see that this is a win for everybody. A win for voices that have been underrepresented for so long, as well as voices still fighting to be heard. Progress is being made, it's not perfect, but we're better off than yesterday, and tomorrow is something to be excited about.
This momentum matters.
As always, let's BE the representation we want in the world, instead of hoping and waiting for someone else to be it for us. I hope Aunty's story inspires you to make progress towards your big dreams, whether political or anything else.
I know this historical moment will inspire more historic moments, until there's no more history to be made.
