Love is a Gift

I don't make enough time for the people that matter to me. It's not because they matter less, it's because, like everyone else, my subconscious is always fixated on things in my life that are out of place. 30,000 years ago, that would have been fantastic to protect us from dangers of the wild, but now it means we'll focus more on what's WRONG in our lives, opposed to what's RIGHT. I don't beat myself up over this and think I'm a bad person, everyone does it, it's just more convenient to remember who does this to us than when we do it to others. Life is about relationships, everything else is noise, and it's up to us to make efforts to keep relationships. If you're waiting for someone else to make the first move, then expect to be waiting for very long. If you don't think someone is worth your time, that's okay, then focus on those that are. I have it in my calendar to reach out to people, at least once every two months. When I can avoid the phone, I do it in person, because eye contact and conversations matter more. Most importantly, making time for myself, and not worrying if others consider that selfish because the most important relationship we have is with ourselves. Take five minutes right now and reach out to people you care about, double tapping their pictures doesn't count, be a real human being and make a real human connection.
