I Stand With Farmers

You're looking at the widows & children of farmers who have committed suicide.

Ever day in ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ, over 28 farmers commit suicide. That's more than one every hour, and over 300,000 in the last 25 years. The majority of these suicides are debt related. More than half of all farmers in the country are in debt as a result of rising costs, mixed with opportunistic money lenders, and shitty government policies.

Wives lose husbands, children lose fathers, and the debt remains.

Suicide is the ultimate sign of distress, and this was happening BEFORE these new farm bills were introduced. These new bills were passed without consulting any major farming groups, and in the middle of a gottam pandemic.

Your cotton, rice, spices (including that tumeric you put in everything), among other important exports, all come from farmers in india and it's coming at the cost of their lives. They were already in a bad situation before these new bills, and it's only going to get worse.

As a Punjabi, I'm proud this movement to protect farmers rights was spearheaded in the north, but as a son, I need to point out that the highest rates of farmer suicide come from the south. As climate change continues to impact the planet, those closest to the equator will have their livelihood impacted the hardest.

I stand with the people.
I stand with the farmers.
I stand with the families.
I stand with those who want to live another day โœŠ๐Ÿพ
